Manage My Health cyber security update
You may have seen recent media coverage regarding a cyber security incident involving Manage My Health, the online patient portal used by many general practices across New Zealand, including Newtown Medical Centre.
We want to reassure our patients that this incident is being actively investigated by Manage My Health, with support from independent cyber security specialists and relevant authorities.
What we know so far
Manage My Health became aware of the incident on 30 December 2025 and acted immediately to secure the platform.
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner, Health New Zealand, and New Zealand Police have been notified.
Early investigations suggest around seven percent of registered users may have been affected.
There is no evidence at this stage that the core patient database was accessed.
There is no evidence of changes or deletion of patient information.
There is no evidence that usernames or passwords were accessed.
Investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided by Manage My Health as confirmed information becomes available.
What patients can do now
As a precaution, Manage My Health recommends the following steps to help protect your online security:
Regularly update your Manage My Health password.
Enable multi factor authentication using a supported authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.
Follow general online security guidance from Own Your Online, a New Zealand Government initiative.
