Specialist referrals and Lab work changes

Important Information About Your Results

If you have blood tests completed at the hospital or are seen by a specialist, your registered GP or Nurse Practitioner will not automatically receive a copy of the results unless they ordered the tests or referral.

If you would like your registered GP or Nurse Practitioner to receive a copy, please ask the specialist or phlebotomist directly.

Under Te Whatu Ora processes, test results and clinical correspondence are sent to the clinician who originally requested them only (you may have seen a Locum or not your regular GP/ NP). That clinician is responsible for reviewing the results, arranging any necessary follow-up, and communicating with you.

Your results and specialist correspondence will still be added to your medical record.
